How to install

Full game or engine · Windows & Linux

  1. Unzip the download somewhere permanent, such as your Documents folder. Games you install from inside the app live in that folder. Your saves are kept separately (%APPDATA%\dryad-engine on Windows, ~/.config/dryad-engine on Linux), so a newer version unzipped anywhere picks them up.
  2. Open the folder and start Dryad Engine.exe on Windows, or dryad-engine on Linux.

Windows may say it protected your PC, because the game isn't code-signed. Click More info, then Run anyway.

Full game or engine · macOS

  1. Install Node.js 20 or newer (the LTS version). You only do this once.
  2. Download Linux & macOS and unzip it somewhere permanent, such as your Documents folder.
  3. Double-click start-macos.command in that folder.

The first start downloads a few hundred MB once, then the game opens straight away every time. Keep the Terminal window open while you play. If macOS won't open the file, right-click it and choose Open.

Android

  1. Download the APK on your phone and open it.
  2. When Android asks, allow your browser to install apps.

A new version installs over the old one. The Premium APK installs over the free one.

Premium mod

  1. Keep the mod as a .zip – don't unzip it.
  2. Copy it into the assets/install folder inside the game folder you unzipped.
  3. Start the game, click Install in the top-left corner of the main menu, and install the mod.

Afterwards you can delete the .zip from assets/install. A mod works with the game version it was made for, so after updating the game, download the new mod too.
